I’m publishing this a day late, but I hope you had a lovely and happy Memorial Day.We spent the morning at the U.S.S.Pampanito, a submarine-turned-museum at Wharf 45 in San Francisco. Each year on Memorial Day, they do a Lost Boat remembrance ceremony for the 52 submarines that were lost in WWII.They read the name of the boat, the date it was lost, and the number of people on board that lost their lives (or survived). Each time they read the name of a submarine, someone in attendance put a flower in the water, then submarine veterans would ring a bell and lower the flag.
It’s a really beautiful ceremony.Oscar’s Scout troop was invited to present the colors, and Oscar played Reveille as the flag was walked in.At the end of the ceremony, Oscar played Taps.Betty and June threw flowers in the water.
When it was finished, everybody was invited to tour the submarine. If you’d like to see, I shared the whole thing on myInstagram Stories— I’ve saved it as a highlight.
After the submarine tour, we enjoyed the lovely weather and walked around Fisherman’s Wharf, then picked up ice cream sandwiches at The Baked Bear.Later in the afternoon, we drove to Sonoma to hang out with cousins, enjoy the pool, and have a barbeque.
Did you have a happy Memorial Day?
